⌨️Sidebar Questions

The left-side panel contains a button called Sidebar Questions. Expand the left-side panel by clicking the orange chevron then click the Sidebar Questions button to access additional tools.

You can also click the button icon when the left-side panel is collapsed to access the sidebar question options.

Click the plus icon to create a new question.

Sidebar questions can be one of three types:

  1. Text Input (designed for concise, one to five word answers)

  2. Dropdown (designed for true/false or multiple choice questions)

  3. Text Area (designed for sentence or paragraph length essay questions)

Select one of the input types then type the question prompt in the text field called Question Label.

By default, the Auto Grade toggle is off. By design, sidebar questions are intended to be manually graded since the answers will vary from user to user.

Questions using the dropdown input type are the exception (e.g., true/false or multiple choice questions). Click the Auto Grade toggle to activate auto grading for a specific question.

You can expand or contract the working area in the left-side panel by dragging the center column divider.

To see how the sidebar questions will appear to users, click the Preview Assignment button in the right-side panel.

Questions that are not auto graded will receive a blue outline when the assignment is submitted. The blue color indicates that the question must be manually graded.

To manually grade a sidebar question, click on the question and open the right-side panel to see the overall assignment grade and the points earned for the selected question. Enter the desired grade and click the Updated Grade button. The blue outline will change to yellow which indicates the question has been manually graded.

Questions using the auto grade feature will continue to appear green if the answer matches the assigned grading rule, and red if the answer does not match. Any answer of any input type can be manually changed by the instructor.
